Luanda: The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, welcomed Mambu Sita Sumbo, the special envoy of the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Félix Tshisekedi, in Luanda on Monday. This meeting highlighted the ongoing diplomatic engagements between Angola and the DRC, focusing on regional stability and economic cooperation.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Mambu Sita Sumbo was appointed this year as the high representative of the DRC Head of State to oversee the Luanda Roadmap and the Regional Economy. After the meeting, the special envoy did not issue any public statements. The diplomatic discussions between Angola and the DRC frequently address issues of mutual interest, particularly concerning peace, security, and stability in the eastern region of the DRC.
In August, President João Lourenço engaged in talks with President Félix Tshisekedi in Kinshasa, DRC, following a ceasefire agreement brokered by Angola. This agreement was part of Angola’s ongoing mediation efforts in the region. O
n 30 July, Angola announced that the DRC and Rwanda had reached a ceasefire agreement, following a meeting held in Luanda. Angolan Foreign Minister Téte Antonio stated that the long-term goal of the agreement is to achieve peace in eastern DRC, which has been affected by armed groups reportedly supported by Rwanda.
