Luanda: The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, has returned to the nation’s capital after a two-day working visit to the province of Cuanza-Norte, where he inaugurated the new Local General Hospital.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the hospital, named after Mário Pinto de Andrade, was opened on Tuesday and is equipped with 200 beds. It will offer services in various medical specialties, including surgery, imaging, physical rehabilitation, neonatology, emergencies, and intensive care. During his visit, President Lourenço also assessed the progress of the new water supply project to the city of Ndalatando. He received briefings and toured the new catchment system in Lucala, which boasts a pumping capacity of 17.7 thousand cubic meters of water per day and is expected to be completed by February 2025.
The visit also included a tour of an agricultural products fair, showcasing local produce such as beans, tomatoes, corn, onions, cassava, carrots, eggplant, and pumpkin. The President’s agenda furth
er included a meeting with the government of Cuanza-Norte to discuss the region’s socio-economic situation and formulate strategies for local development.
Governor João Diogo Gaspar provided an overview of the province’s status across sectors like energy, health, higher education, housing, youth and sports, transport, fisheries, industry, and culture. The governor highlighted the social concerns of the ten municipalities, which will expand to 17 with the implementation of a new Political-Administrative Division next year.
