Djibo, Burkina Faso – President Captain Ibrahim Traoré paid tribute to the Combatant Forces for their successful defense against a terrorist attack in Djibo on Sunday, November 26. In a speech delivered on his behalf by Minister of Health, Lucien Robert Kargougou, President Traoré praised the forces for their decisive action against the terrorists.
According to Burkina Information Agency, heavily armed terrorists attacked Djibo, but were repelled by the military, supported by air forces, leaving hundreds of terrorists dead.
President Traoré described Djibo as an impregnable symbol of Burkina Faso’s resilience and commitment to defending its territory against terrorism. He also observed a minute of silence in honor of the patriots who have fallen in the fight against terrorism.
This statement was made on the sidelines of the inauguration of a new 300-bed hospital construction project in Gaoua, South-West Burkina Faso.
Kericho, Kenya – Kericho County has shown notable improvements in various health indicators. The latest Kenya Demographic and Health Survey, conducted by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, reveals these advancements.
According to Kenya News Agency, Kericho County Statistics Officer, the 2022 survey highlights a remarkable increase in women delivering in health facilities, reaching 91 percent. This shift is accompanied by a decrease in home deliveries, now at 9.1 percent. Shanko underscored the progress in reducing under-5 child mortality rates, which have fallen from 41 deaths per 1,000 births in 2003 to 31 in 2022. The survey also sheds light on rising involvement of women in decision-making, a decline in violence against women, and a reduction in non-communicable diseases. However, it points to concerning statistics regarding depression, with 7 percent of men and 2 percent of women affected, and equal prevalence of high blood pressure among both genders at 2 percent. Shanko revealed a troubling aspect of gender-based violence, with 20 percent of women experiencing physical, sexual, or emotional violence and 43 percent not seeking help post-violence.
