President Ibrahim Traoré Commemorates Ninth Anniversary of Popular Uprising and Eighth of Failed Coup

Ouagadougou – Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the President of the Transition, presided over a ceremony in Ouagadougou on Tuesday morning to commemorate the ninth anniversary of the popular insurrection of October 30 and 31, 2014, and the eighth anniversary of the failed putsch of September 16, 2015.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Head of State honored the martyrs of the popular uprising by laying a wreath at the Monument to National Heroes in the Ouaga 2000 district. The wreath-laying was followed by the ringing of a bell and the playing of the national anthem. The ceremony concluded with the Head of State greeting the families of the martyrs. On the night preceding the commemoration, a civic vigil took place at the memorial, involving the mobilization of more than 1,045,000 FCFA. The popular insurrection led to the ousting of President Blaise Compaoré, who had been in power for 27 years.
