Luanda: Angolan President, Joo Louren§o, on Wednesday received in audience the Chairman and owner of the Brazilian company EMS, Carlos Sanchez, with whom he discussed the construction of a pharmaceutical industry for the country’s self-sufficiency in medicines.

According to Angola Press News Agency, EMS is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of generic medicines, with a consolidated presence in the international market and a history of investment in innovation and industrial expansion. The company expressed interest in establishing a pharmaceutical and medical products manufacturing unit in Angola, as part of a broader initiative to strengthen the country’s pharmaceutical industry.

At the end of the meeting, the Chairman of EMS said that contacts with the Angolan authorities to this end were focusing on technical aspects so that work could begin soon. When asked about the amount to be financed by the Brazilian company, Carlos Sanchez stated that it will invest what is necessary to help Angola to have a significant production of medicines, not only for the country, but in the near future to supply the southern region of Africa.

The realization of this project will contribute to the strengthening of the national health system, the reduction of the cost of purchasing medicines, the creation of qualified jobs, and the expansion of Angola’s export capacity in the pharmaceutical sector.
