Presidency Denounces AI-Generated Video Falsely Claiming Leadership Change

Windhoek: The Presidency has firmly distanced itself from an artificial intelligence (AI)-generated video that is circulating with claims that President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has assumed control of the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy (MIME) after the dismissal of former minister Natangue Ithete.

According to Namibia Press Agency, this development follows the dismissal of Ithete from his ministerial duties on 26 October. President Nandi-Ndaitwah temporarily took over the ministry to maintain leadership continuity and ensure uninterrupted service delivery. On 28 October, she appointed Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Frans Kapofi, to manage the MIME portfolio on an interim basis.

In a statement released on Monday, the Presidency condemned the video as 'false and misleading,' urging the public to remain cautious of manipulated digital content. The statement emphasized, 'The Presidency categorically distances itself from the video and its contents. It is false and misleading.'

The office further encouraged Namibians to be alert to AI-generated disinformation meant to distort facts and harm the reputation of the Head of State and government institutions. 'We caution the public not to be deceived by AI-generated content intended to distort facts and damage the image of the President and the Presidency,' the statement read.

The Presidency stressed that all official updates and announcements will be communicated solely through its verified social media platforms and official channels. Citizens were advised to verify the authenticity of any information before sharing it online.
