At least a hundred activists and supporters of the various education unions in Bam observed yesterday Thursday, a sit-in from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Kongoussi High Commission, to disapprove of any movement of a Bam worker to another region as part of the operation to check the presence of public officials at their workstation.
“Bam is a red zone. A curfew has even been introduced. To ask an agent to leave Bam for Kaya is to expose him to financial and security risks on his way. Moreover, a circular letter from the secretary general of the ministry in charge of national education had ordered the various officials of the red zones to forward the various files of the agents by hierarchical way to prevent those concerned from taking risks. After approaching the provincial and regional authorities in this regard, we were unpleasantly surprised. Why in Bam this is not the case, while other provinces do it? asked the coordinator of the Bam education unions, Hamidou Dabaré.
In a letter sent to the secretary general of the province of Bam, Karim Ouedraogo, the education workers of Bam oppose any travel outside the province as part of this operation.
Until a follow-up is given to this walkout, the education workers will remain in sit-in movement every day from this Thursday until their demand is satisfied.
The coordination says to hold the local authorities responsible for everything that would happen to an agent who would come to move for this enlistment.
As a reminder, a presence check for public officials by region was adopted on January 25, 2023 by the Council of Ministers. Each public official should appear before a team from the ministry in charge of finance in the regional capital of his choice to register.
