The Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Burkina Faso, Ms. Nilgün Erdem Ari, is organizing next Thursday in Ouagadougou, a ceremony to commemorate the martyrs who fell during the coup attempt of July 15, 2016, and the day of democracy and national unity of Türkiye, learned the AIB from a source close to the embassy.

The same source specifies that the ceremony which will take place on Thursday July 13, 2023 at 11 a.m., within the Embassy, located in the Ouaga 2000 district, is placed under the theme: “The Heroes of the Turkish Centenary”.

It will not be the first time that the Embassy of Turkiye in Burkina Faso has organized such a ceremony on the occasion of the anniversary date of the 2016 putsch attempt.

As a reminder, a coup attempt in Turkey took place on the night of July 15 to 16, 2016, mainly in Ankara and Istanbul. It was sponsored by a “Country Peace Council”, a faction of the Turkish Armed Forces that the Turkish government accuses of being linked to Fethullah Gülen.

The attempt ended in failure and the latest official report shows more than 290 dead and 1,440 civilians injured.
