Lodwar: Preparations are in full swing for the 8th edition of the Tobonguloree Festival, scheduled to be held from October 24-27, 2024, at the Ekaales Centre in Lodwar, Turkana County. This cultural event, a highlight in the region, will feature forty choirs from across the Ateker region, showcasing traditional music and dance. According to Kenya News Agency, the choirs were selected after a rigorous audition process conducted across the thirty wards of Turkana County. Lemmy Ejorowoia, the coordinator of the audition exercise, emphasized the quality of performances that will be presented at the festival. "The auditions were conducted with the aim of ensuring high-quality performances during the festival. These performances will complement other highlights, such as the beauty contest, sports events, and official speeches," Ejorewoia stated. He further encouraged the selected choirs to continue rehearsing to enhance their performances, underscoring the importance of showcasing the rich cultural heritage of th e region. "We expect the groups to keep practicing to deliver memorable performances," he added. Abdul Lomuria, the Director of Tourism, highlighted the inclusive nature of the audition process. Three teams were dispatched across Turkana to provide equal opportunities to all interested choirs, ensuring a diverse representation of the county's cultural expressions. "Our goal was to ensure every interested choir had the chance to audition," Lomuria noted. The Tobonguloree Festival not only celebrates traditional songs and dances but also serves as a platform for unity and cultural pride among the Ateker cluster communities.
