Oshakati: Gerhard ‘Washa-Washa’ Hengari, coach of the Mighty Gunners, has said his team is not currently focused on the Debmarine Namibia Premier Football League standings or a direct title bid. Instead, their primary objective is to deliver strong performances and secure wins in upcoming matches, Hengari said in an interview with Nampa ahead of Mighty Gunners’ weekend encounters at the Oshakati Independence Stadium.
According to NAMPA, they are set to face Eeshoke Chula Chula on Saturday and King Kauluma ‘KK’ Palace on Sunday. Victories in these matches would keep Mighty Gunners firmly in the title race. Despite downplaying the title focus, Hengari expressed confidence in his side’s preparedness.
‘From our side as Mighty Gunners FC, we are prepared for the upcoming games in trying to get points and stay in the race for the title. We know it’s not going to be easy because we are playing two good teams that are playing very well at the moment,’ he said.
Hengari said Mighty Gunners will accord their opponents the respect they deserve and take every game with confidence and resilience while striving to stay in the title race. ‘We need to respect that and defend very well and also be clinical in front of goal, we are just taking it one game at a time and try to collect as much points as we can,’ added Hengari.
Hengari’s side sits third on the standing with 37 points, three shy of top leaders African Stars. This weekend, all Premier League teams will be in action. Current league leaders African Stars will face Khomas NamPol in a crucial title clash, while Young African heads to Keetmanshoop to take on the struggling Young Brazilians.
Julinho Sporting will play Bucks Buccaneers, Chula Chula will meet Okahandja United, and Blue Boys will go up against Ongos. Blue Waters will host Tigers, Cuca Tops will play UNAM.
