ECOWAS has just released $78 million for Nigeria. This funding will be used to subsidize a training program for 150 young farmers operating in the states of Bauchi and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in poultry and aquaculture. Nigeria has the largest poultry herd in West Africa with a population estimated at more than 240 million heads in 2021. But the country still produces less than 30% of its chicken meat consumption, estimated at 1.5 million tonnes per year. As for aquaculture, it only provides around 27% of the local fish supply valued at more than 1.1 million tonnes in 2021, according to FAO data. Source: Africa News Agency
