Pope’s Messages of Unity and Reconciliation Resonate in Angola

Ondjiva: Political scientist Ismael Alfredo, speaking in Ondjiva, Cunene province, praised the messages of unity and peace delivered by Pope Leo XIV. In a statement to ANGOP, he said that the Holy Father's speeches focus on peace, hope, and reconciliation among peoples, as well as on the commitment to the sustainable development of the country.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Ismael Alfredo emphasized the Pope's message of hope, courage, respect, and citizenship directed particularly to the youth, which are essential for strengthening patriotism and the Christian faith. However, he mentioned the necessity for the Angolan people to translate these teachings from theory into practice.

During the Pope's visit, he is accompanied by journalists from various television channels and news agencies, who report on the events in Angola, thus enhancing the country's image on the international stage. An example of this is the Pope's visit to Saurimo, an inland province, indicating that stability and security are widespread across the country.

The political scientist commended the unity, civic spirit, and enthusiastic actions displayed by Angolans in welcoming Pope Leo XIV, noting that the festive atmosphere further solidifies the existing good relations. He urged the population to continue participating civically to uphold the good name of the country.

On the third day of his visit to Angola, the Holy Father celebrated Mass and visited a center for the elderly in Saurimo, Lunda-Sul province. Later, he held a joint meeting with bishops, priests, religious, and catechists at the parish of Our Lady of Fatima in Luanda.

In Angola, the Pope also held meetings with the President of the Republic, Joo Louren§o, members of civil society, the diplomatic corps, and the Bishops of the Catholic Episcopal Conference in Angola and So Tom© (CEAST). On Sunday, he celebrated Mass in the Kilamba central area in Luanda and recited the Rosary at the Muxima sanctuary in Icolo e Bengo province.
