Poni: The Minister of Family and Solidarity, Lieutenant-Colonel Passowend© P©lagie Kabor©, inaugurated a shea butter production unit in Gaoua this Tuesday morning, marking a significant step in the government’s efforts towards women’s empowerment and local economic development.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the inauguration ceremony took place at the Women’s House in Gaoua with the attendance of local authorities and community members. This initiative is part of the government’s commitment to addressing women’s needs, enhancing production quality, increasing processing capacity, and generating sustainable income. Minister Kabor© praised President Captain Ibrahim Traor© for his responsive governance which prioritizes the concerns of the populace.
The minister highlighted that the new production unit aligns with the ‘Let’s celebrate March 8 differently’ initiative, aiming at impactful actions for women’s empowerment. Following the Barsalogho unit, the Dj´r´ unit’s inauguration signifies the ongoing efforts, with more units planned for creation by 2026.
Minister Kabor© urged the beneficiaries to manage the unit responsibly, maintain the equipment, reinvest in infrastructure improvements, and foster solidarity and discipline. She also called on local authorities and technical services to aid women in enhancing product quality and market access to make this endeavor a model of success and resilience.
Ms. Pascaline Tabsaba, representing the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to the authorities for realizing the project initiated in 2018. She emphasized the importance of the infrastructure in fostering women’s entrepreneurship and income-generating activities related to shea and its products, thereby promoting local consumption.
The beneficiaries pledged to manage the unit efficiently and sustainably. The event concluded with a tour of the facilities and a demonstration of the initial shea processing operations, receiving encouragement from attending authorities and community members.
