Polokwane Police Pursue Suspect in Witpoort Rape Case

POLOKWANE – The Lephalale Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit is currently investigating a rape case involving a 30-year-old woman in Witpoort, Letlora village. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, 26 November 2023, around 21:30, is alleged to have been committed by the victim’s ex-boyfriend.

According to South African Police Service, the victim encountered her ex-boyfriend while returning from a tavern in Letlora village. Despite her refusal, he allegedly assaulted her, forcibly took her to his residence, and raped her. The victim was released the following night, on Monday, 27 November 2023.

The case was reported to the police on the afternoon of Thursday, 30 November 2023, leading to the initiation of a manhunt to apprehend the suspect. The investigation has been transferred to the specialized Lephalale Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit for further action.

Authorities are urging anyone with information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest to contact Detective Warrant Officer Josephinah Mocheko or use the Crime Stop number and MySAPS App. The ongoing police investigation seeks to locate and detain the suspect promptly.
