Yaadga: Police reassure that Operation "Wibga" will be carried out firmly. As part of the implementation of its activities, the Regional Directorate of the National Police (DRPN) of Yaadga organized a press conference on Monday at its premises in the city of Naaba Kango to review its 2025 activities and reassure the public about the security of the end-of-year celebrations in Operation Wibga, AIB observed on site.
According to Burkina Information Agency, surrounded by his closest collaborators, the regional police director, Divisional Police Commissioner Oumar Soulama, presented a review of activities for 2025, the implementation of Operation "Wibga" in the region, and the outlook for 2026. Before reading his opening statement, the regional director led a minute of silence in memory of all the civilian and military victims involved in the reconquest of the national territory.
As a summary, Commissioner Soulama listed a number of achievements made possible by the efforts of all stakeholders. Specifically, in the fight against urban crime, drug use, and road safety, awareness campaigns and enforcement operations against incivility and drug use were conducted in Loroum, Passore, Yatenga, and Zondoma.
To better guarantee the safety of people and their property during the holiday season, and in accordance with directives received from the Ministry of Security, the regional director informed media representatives of the effective implementation of Operation "Wibga" in northern Burkina Faso. "More than 400 police officers will be mobilized and their mission will include, among other things, intensifying foot and motorized patrols, strengthening roadside and identity checks, raising awareness of the highway code and safety, and operationalizing the cordon and search of crime-ridden areas," he explained.
The head of the Yaadga police was clear: "Raising awareness will be our priority, but no act of defiance against public authority will be tolerated."
Throughout 2025, the regional police directorate played its part in promoting civic responsibility, strengthening patriotism, and fostering a culture of tolerance and social resilience through public conferences and radio broadcasts. Looking ahead to 2026, the regional police directorate plans to innovate in governance methods and tools, increase staffing levels for better security coverage across the four provinces, and strengthen the bond of trust between the institution and citizens. To achieve this, the regional police chief urges the public to strictly adhere to the measures issued by security forces, to remain vigilant in their homes and workplaces, and, in case of suspicious activity, to call the Ouahigouya police hotline at 17, and the other numbers at 16 or 1010.
