Police Reaffirm Commitment to Republican Missions at Nakambe Flag-Raising Ceremony

Nakambe: The governor of the Nakambe region, Yiye Abraham Somdo, presided over the monthly flag-raising ceremony at the Regional Directorate of the National Police on Tuesday. During the ceremony, the Regional Director of the National Police, Fran§ois Sawadogo, presented the organization and missions of his institution, and a review of regional participation in the 2026 National Culture Week (SNC) was also conducted.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Fran§ois Sawadogo indicated that the Regional Directorate of the National Police of Nakambe is an administrative entity in accordance with the decree on the organization and operation of the National Police. He detailed that the structure comprises three provincial directorates covering Boulgou, Koulpelogo, and Kouritenga, which include various services such as central police stations, district police stations, public security units, republican security companies, and general intelligence services.

At the regional level, specialized services are operational, including the child protection unit, the communications and IT department, and the regional Interpol office. Other services, such as the criminal investigation department and the forensic identification unit, are in the process of being established. Sawadogo also mentioned that intervention units, including the Republican Security Companies and the anti-crime brigade, operate throughout the regional territory.

Addressing the responsibilities, Sawadogo emphasized that the National Police is tasked with ensuring the application of laws, guaranteeing the safety of people and property, and maintaining public order. It plays a role in combating terrorism, organized crime, and illicit trafficking, as well as protecting institutions, securing borders, and gathering intelligence. Operational activities of the regional directorate include conducting patrols, organizing awareness campaigns, particularly in road safety, and carrying out judicial police operations under the jurisdiction of competent authorities.

At the event, Governor Yiye Abraham Somdo praised the commitment of the security forces and reaffirmed the support of the regional authorities. Alongside the ceremony, the regional director in charge of culture presented the results of Nakambe's participation in the 2026 National Culture Week. The region fielded a delegation of 142 people, including artists, wrestlers, and archers, and secured a total of 11 awards, including five official prizes, placing second behind the host region.

The governor congratulated the cultural stakeholders on their achievements while encouraging them to improve their performance in future editions. The ceremony underscored the role of the National Police in securing the regional territory and showcased the cultural accomplishments of Nakambe. The governor also urged the population to strengthen their commitment to development initiatives and participate in upcoming activities, including World Malaria Day scheduled for May 13, 2026, in the region.
