The police in Erongo have brought a person of interest in for questioning in the case of missing 53-year-old Omaruru resident, Robby Michael.

Michael reportedly went missing at Henties Bay on Sunday.

According to Head of Community Policing in the Erongo Region, Inspector Ileni Shapumba, the person of interest had come under suspicion due to the alleged possession of fishing rods resembling those of the missing person.

“We are investigating the manner in which he got hold of the fishing rods,” Shapumba said.

Michael had gone fishing with two friends on Saturday, however around 18h00, his friends left to return to their accommodation for the night in Henties Bay.

According to the police, the friends were informed that Michael had not returned to where he was supposed to sleep, after which they filed a missing person’s report with the police.

A search has since been launched but thus far, only his white pick-up truck was discovered in the sea at the Mile 72 camping area about 40 kilometres north of Henties Bay.

It is suspected that the driver might have parked along the coastline and the car unexpectedly washed away during high tide.

The vehicle, which was significantly damages, was towed and removed from the water.

The search is ongoing.
