Police officers continue to rid the community of firearms and ammunition

On 17 August 2023, members attached to Stellenbosch SAPS conducted a vehicle check point in Blake Road, Stellenbosch. Their vigilance were rewarded when the members in collaboration with Stellenbosch Traffic officers pulled over a Grey Opel. During the search of the vehicle, members discovered a 9mm firearm inside the vehicle. Further investigation on the ownership of the firearm revealed that the owner of the firearm was deceased.

The two occupants aged 37 and 40 were arrested on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of ammunition, possession of suspected stolen goods, fraud and the contravention of the immigration act of 2002 section 49(1)(a). Once charged they are expected to make a court appearance in the Stellenbosch Magistrate court on the mentioned charge.

In an unrelated matter on 16 August 2023, Grassy Park SAPS members received information of a firearm stored at a premises in Walter’s Close, Grassy Park. Upon their arrival they found two males in the Wendy house busy cleaning a firearm. None of the two could produce a firearm license when they were asked. A .38 Special revolver without serial number was confiscated. Both suspects aged 25 and 32 were arrested on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm. The suspects are due to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates court on 18 August 2023 on the mentioned charges.
