Police Officer Attacked and Robbed in Windhoek

Windhoek: A police officer was reportedly attacked by three suspects with a panga in the Goreangab residential area, where he had dropped off a colleague in the early hours of Sunday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, an incident report by the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) indicated that during the ordeal, the police officer used his service pistol and shot one of the attackers in the leg before running out of bullets, resulting in him fleeing towards his colleague’s house for help. Upon his return, the suspect he shot was picked up by a sedan, and a bag containing work items was taken.

The report further reads, “The suspects smashed the rear passenger window with a brick, took a bag containing a camera with its charger, a torch with its charger, a car key and the member’s cellphone.” Two suspects, aged 23, were arrested, including the driver of the sedan who picked up the suspect from the scene. No recovery has been made yet.

Meanwhile, a Yango driver and a 30-year-old man were robbed of their belongings between 02h00 and 03h00 on Saturday, when they were ambushed by multiple cars at a four-way stop in the capital. “It is alleged that the victims were driving from Khomasdal to Luxury Hill when the incident happened. The driver was threatened by one of the six suspects, who had a gun, to pull the car over before smashing the small back window and instructing him to open the car. They then took off with the victim’s car battery, two side mirrors, car key, cellphone and N.dollars 800 in cash,” the report detailed.

Police investigations into both matters continue.
