Luanda: National police in Zaire province dismantled a hideout for illegal immigrants from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and arrested twelve citizens of that neighboring country, national police spokesman Lieutenant Lus Bernardo said Tuesday. The hideout, located on the outskirts of the city of Mbanza Kongo, was dismantled after a coordinated criminal intelligence operation.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the spokesman said the DRC citizens entered the national territory through the Luvo land border after paying 7,700 US dollars to the facilitators, who are on the run. “They entered through the Luvo border and from there were led by unknown persons through clandestine routes to the town of Mbanza Kongo,” the spokesman said.

The province of Zaire shares a 310-kilometer border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, 120 kilometers of which are land borders and 190 kilometers of which are river borders across the Zaire River.
