Police Arrest Three for Unlicensed Firearms and Ammunition

Pretoria – In a bid to rid communities of unlicensed firearms, police officers arrested three suspects for possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. The first incident occurred on Tuesday, 21 November 2023, in Parkwood. Police, noticing a nervous-looking man who began running upon seeing their vehicle, gave chase and apprehended him. The 27-year-old suspect was found in possession of a firearm without a serial number and six rounds of ammunition.

According to South African Police Service, in an unrelated incident on the same day in Wesbank, members of the Anti-Economical and Provincial Extortion Task Team, acting on information about gang activity, confiscated two zip guns and 7.76mm rounds of ammunition at two separate addresses. Two suspects, aged 23 and 26, were arrested.

The Parkwood suspect is due to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court, while the two Wesbank suspects will be brought before the Bluedowns Magistrates’ Court once charged.
