Polokwane, Mopani District – A 43-year-old man was arrested by the Ritavi Police for allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in Shikwambani village outside Tzaneen. The incident occurred on Saturday, 11 November 2023, around 12:30 PM, as reported in a new release by the local police department.
According to South African Police Service, The suspect reportedly made inappropriate advances towards the minor victim, touching her breast and private parts while she was walking on the street. A street hawker who witnessed the incident promptly alerted the victim’s mother. The mother then reported the matter to the police, leading to the opening of a sexual assault case. The case was subsequently transferred to the Tzaneen Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation.
The suspect was traced and successfully arrested at Mhlaba Cross village on Sunday, 12 November 2023. He is scheduled to appear before the Ritavi Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 13 November 2023. The arrest underscores the ongoing efforts by the police to address and combat sexual offenses, particularly against minors.
