An integrated operation between and SAPS and Traffic services in the Boland District led to the arrest of seven suspects between the ages of 25 and 65 when they were found in possession of 310 kilogram overhead cables on the N1 near the Hugenote tunnel in the early hours of Wednesday morning. This followed information received about suspects driving in a Volkswagen Golf and a Toyota Verso that are busy stealing copper cables. The information was operationalized and the vehicles were stopped and searched just before the tunnel. They were arrested and detained on the criminal matters amendment act.

The suspects will appear in the Paarl Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 06 October 2023.
