Eldama Ravine: Police in Eldama Ravine are investigating a suspected case of human trafficking after seizing a vehicle carrying 20 women under unclear circumstances.

According to Kenya News Agency, the women, appearing starved, were found without valid identification documents and had to be fed before questioning.

The women were taken for interrogation after a Toyota Hiace they were traveling in was flagged for speeding at the Makutano junction along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway by traffic officers. The driver fled the scene, prompting officers to interrogate the women and log the incident at the Makutano Police Station before transferring the women to the Koibatek Sub-County Police Station in Eldama Ravine Town.

Koibatek Sub-County Police Commander Joel Chepkwony reported that the women were dressed in buibuis and lacked identification cards. According to Sub-County Officer in Charge of Criminal Investigations, Richard Cheruyot, the women are aged between 20 and 25 years and hail from different regions, including Mombasa, Kakamega, Kwale, Nairobi, Elburgon, Voi, Meru, Kitale, and Nyandarua.

Cheruyot stated that the women would remain at the station as investigations continue into the suspected human trafficking syndicate. He assured that efforts are underway to uncover the details of the case and identify those involved. Authorities are also collaborating with the National Transport Services Authority to determine the ownership of the vehicle and investigate the intended destination of the women.
