Bobo-dioulasso: Agricultural diversification is a priority for the ministry,’ said the Regional Director of Agriculture of Guiriko, Adanabou K. Eric Pascal, on the occasion of the third open day of the Djoda farm dedicated to pineapple cultivation.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event, held on Friday, November 14, 2025, at the production site located not far from Bobo-Dioulasso, brought together representatives of the administration, agricultural technicians, and producers who came to observe the evolution of this speculation in the region.
Established in 2018, the Djoda farm is conducting research to adapt fertilizers to local climatic conditions in order to improve pineapple productivity. The trials aim to assess the feasibility and profitability of this crop in Burkina Faso and to demonstrate its potential for sustainable development.
The Regional Director of Agriculture for Guiriko, Adanabou K. Eric Pascal, commended the farm’s efforts. He reiterated that the ministry encourages agricultural diversification and the development of crops such as pineapples, plantains, and cocoa.
Approximately one hundred hectares are now dedicated to pineapple in the region, with the prospect of gradually structuring producers into cooperatives.
The farm’s promoter, Oumarou Compaore, who has been involved in this venture for six years, presented the results obtained, including the size and health of the fruit. Mr. Compaore indicated that some trials have achieved yields exceeding 85 tonnes per hectare, while stressing the need for increased technical expertise to meet climatic requirements.
The farm also reported ongoing discussions with processing units interested in a local pineapple supply. Oumarou Compaore specifies that he belongs to a cooperative bringing together more than 80 producers and having a land potential that is still under-exploited.
