Piéla Traders Donate Over 4.6 Million FCFA to Local Defense Volunteers


PIÉLA — The Association of Traders of Piéla (ACP) has made a significant contribution to the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), providing donations valued at 4,640,000 FCFA, including motorcycles and communication equipment, in an event attended by various local authorities on Saturday in Piéla.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the president of ACP, the donations included eight APMOTOS motorcycles, four walkie-talkies, and financial support comprising 100,000 francs for fuel and an additional 250,000 francs contributed to the Public Treasury to aid the peace efforts. The ceremony also witnessed contributions to the kolgweogo self-defense groups and saw an immediate collection of 205,300 francs through voluntary donations from those present, further supporting the VDP’s operational needs.



Lankoandé emphasized that the donations are a testament to the solidarity of Piéla’s traders with the VDP, acknowledging the significant sacrifices made by the volunteers in combating terrorism. “The fundraising continues, and I am asking for the contribution of all traders to support the VDP and the FDS,” he stated, highlighting the ongoing efforts to financially support the defense volunteers.



The event also included a contribution from the administrators of a WhatsApp group known as ‘Groupe de la Gnagna diema Labaari’, who donated an additional 60,000 francs, underscoring the community-wide support for the VDP. Aimé César Béogo, the 1st vice-president representing the president of the Special Delegation of Piéla, expressed gratitude towards the traders and the broader community for their commitment to supporting the national defense efforts. He stressed the importance of solidarity and social cohesion during challenging times for the country.
