OUAGADOUGOU — A unique photographic hike is set to take place from August 17 to 19, involving 62 professional and amateur photographers, aimed at promoting Burkina Faso's internal tourism by capturing the nation's cultural and tourist heritage.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event's promoter, announced the hike during a press conference on Saturday. The event is designed to leverage photography to enhance the image of Burkina Faso and support tourism by creating a visual repository of the country’s rich cultural heritage. "To promote tourism, image is essential," Woba explained, emphasizing the symbiotic relationship between imagery and tourism promotion.
The hike will cover prominent tourist sites including the Ouagadougou museum, the museum in Loumbila, the Women's Museum in Ziniaré, and the site of the sculpture symposium in Laongo. Woba outlined that the event will not only focus on exploring these sites but will also feature educational activities such as photography workshops for youths, a masterclass for professionals, and a thematic panel discussion followed by a photo exhibition.
Dieudonné Woba stressed the importance of good health and endurance for participants, as they will be traversing various terrains to visit these sites. He noted that this year the event attracted a diverse group of 62 photographers—45 professionals and 17 amateurs. The photographic hike is anticipated to be a pivotal event in fostering a stronger community among photographers in Burkina Faso and showcasing the country under a new light.
