A photo exhibition featuring a rich collection of major milestones and key political figures of Greece’s European course opened to the public on Thursday evening in Zappeion, marking the celebration for the 40th anniversary of the country’s accession to the European Communities, which coincides with the launch of the national dialogue in the framework of the Conference on the Future of Europe.
Leading politicians including Konstantinos Karamanlis, Andreas Papandreou, Konstantinos Mitsotakis, Costas Simitis, Kostas Karamanlis, George Papandreou, Loukas Papadimos, Antonis Samaras, Alexis Tsipras to the current Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, are featured as well as historic moments like the Association Agreement in 1961, the signing of the Treaty of Accession in Zappeion in 1979, the official Accession in 1981, the first Greek Presidency in 1983, the Delors Package I in 1988, the Maastricht Treaty in 1992, the entry of our country into the eurozone in 2001, the accession of Cyprus in 2004, the Treaty of Lisbon in 2009, the first economic adjustment program in 2010, the second program in 2012, the third program in 2015 and the Recovery Package in 2020.
The exhibition was organized by the office of the Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs for European Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, who is the coordinator of the national dialogue in the framework of the Conference on the Future of Europe.
The exhibition will travel throughout Greece to be presented in the events that will take place in the Regions and Municipalities of the country in the framework of the Conference on the Future of Europe.
