Luanda: Petro de Luanda defeated 1º de Agosto on Monday by 90-69, moving one step closer to retaining the title of National Senior Men's Basketball Championship, increasing the Play-off total to 3-1, in the best of seven games.
According to Angola Press News Agency, galvanized by Sunday's triumph, 1º de Agosto performed below expectations right from the start, with their defensive weaknesses easily visible. Petro de Luanda, playing as the home team and under pressure due to the previous game, passed the ball around more often, a strategy not mirrored by their opponents.
With errors in their defense, 1º de Agosto was unable to stop Yanick Moreira, who scored 23 points, making him the top scorer in the match played at the Cidadela Sportcenter Pavilion. Despite successive corrections by coach Lazare Adingono, the team could not contain Moreira's prowess on the court.
Petro is now one game away from celebrating the title, which they have held since 2019. The critical fifth game is scheduled to take place on Thursday at 6 pm. In the first three duels, Petro won by scores of 89-78 and 81-79, and lost by 95-86.
The match was officiated by referees Francisco Tando, Claudio Eiuba, and Antonio Samuel. Key players for 1º de Agosto included Tiago Fernandes with 11 points, Fabio Domingos as captain with 12 points, and Edmilson Inglªs who also scored 11 points. Coach Lazare Adingono's team struggled to find their rhythm throughout the game.
