Petro de Luanda to Face Dar City in BAL Quarter-Finals

Kigali: Angola's Petro de Luanda is set to face Tanzania's Dar City in the quarter-finals of the Basketball Africa League (BAL), scheduled to occur from the 22nd to the 31st of the current month in Kigali, Rwanda. The two teams recently clashed one month ago in the Kalahari Conference held in Pretoria, South Africa, where Petro emerged victorious with a 100-75 win, leading by 53-41 at halftime.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the Angolan team topped the overall standings, while Dar City secured the eighth spot. The quarter-final lineup also features Al Ahly of Egypt against Ville de Dakar of Senegal, Club Africain of Tunisia competing with Al Ahly of Libya, and the host team RSSB Tigers set to play against Fus de Rabat.

Petro de Luanda holds the distinction of being the only team to have participated in every edition of the competition since its inception in 2021. Under the guidance of Brazilian coach Jos© Neto, Petro concluded their debut year in third place after a semi-final loss to Egypt's Zamalek. In 2022, they secured a second-place finish following a 72-83 defeat in the final to Tunisia's Monastir. The team ended in fourth place in the 2023 edition, losing the classification match to Mali's Stade Malien with a score of 65-73.

In 2024, Petro claimed the championship title by defeating Libya's Al Ahly 107-94 in the final, marking a successful debut year for coach S©rgio Valdeomillos. The team reached the final again in 2025 but faced a setback with a loss to Al Ahly Tripoli, finishing at 67-88.
