Petro de Luanda Clinches Girabola Title with Draw Against 1º de Maio

Luanda: Petro de Luanda football team celebrated winning the national championship title on Saturday with a goalless draw against 1º de Maio de Benguela, in a match of the 28th round of the Girabola 2025/26, played at 11 de Novembro stadium, in the country's capital. According to Angola Press News Agency, the game, without much impact on the standings for either team, marked the title ceremony with the presentation of the National Champion's trophy and a symbolic check for 90 million Kwanzas to Petro, which had already retained the title several rounds ago. The trophy, presented to captain Tiago Azulo, culminated in celebrations in the stands and in the center of the field, in a ceremony attended by officials from the Angolan Football Federation (FAF) and ANCAF, Petro de Luanda and other guests. This is Petro de Luanda's 20th Girabola title and the 5th consecutive. In the standings, the team have 70 points, while 1º de Maio have 35, in eighth position and with their stay in Girabola practically guaranteed, with two rounds remaining until the end of the competition. Today's matches were: Desportivo da Huila defeated Guelson FC 4-0, 1º de Agosto lost to Kabuscorp do Palanca 0-1, and Bravos do Maquis secured a 1-0 victory over Redonda FC. On Sunday, Recreativo do Libolo will face Académica do Lobito, So Salvador will take on Interclube, and Sagrada Esperança will play against Desportivo da Lunda Sul.
