Cabinda: More than 800 hectares around the new Cabinda International Airport, under construction since 2025 in the Malembo locality of the Tando-Zinze municipality, have been cleared of explosive devices. The announcement marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of the area as construction progresses.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the demining operation is part of a broader initiative to clear 27 new areas throughout the province of explosive devices. The National Demining Center is responsible for 14 of these areas, while the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) are handling the remaining 13. This effort underscores the commitment to safety and security in the region.
The official mentioned that the institution has been conducting awareness campaigns among local communities to educate them about the dangers of mines. These campaigns aim to prevent accidents involving unexploded ordnance and ensure the safety of residents living near these areas.
The new Cabinda International Airport will feature a 3,500-meter runway and a 12,000-square-meter passenger terminal, promising to enhance the region's infrastructure and connectivity. The demining efforts are a crucial step toward the successful completion of this significant infrastructure project.
