Washington: The U.S. Department of Defense is deploying approximately 3,000 soldiers to the country’s southern border with Mexico. The information was reported by the Washington Post, citing statements from U.S. defense officials.

According to Namibia Press Agency, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth approved the deployment orders on Friday. The troops will include elements from a Stryker brigade combat team and a general support aviation battalion, and they are expected to be stationed along the nearly 2,000-mile border in the coming weeks.

The Pentagon stated that the purpose of the additional forces is to “reinforce and expand current border security operations to seal the border and protect the territorial integrity of the United States.”

U.S. President Donald Trump has prioritized border security throughout his administration. On his first day in office, he declared a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border to address illegal immigration issues comprehensively.
