Pedro Mendes de Carvalho Appointed New Attorney General

Luanda: President Joo Lourenço on Wednesday appointed Pedro Mendes de Carvalho as the new Attorney General, replacing Helder Pitta Groz. According to Angola Press News Agency, the Press Office of the Presidency of the Republic disclosed the information following the Superior Council of the Public Prosecutor's Office's (CSMMP) approval of the election results for Attorney General. Out of seven contenders, the three candidates with the most votes were Pedro Mendes de Carvalho, Gilberto Milazaque, and Mota Liz. Mendes de Carvalho has represented the Office of the Attorney General internationally on various matters and was, until today, responsible for the National Directorate of Investigation and Criminal Action (DNIAP), the body that directs several complex cases.
