Cuito: The contemporary Brazilian pedagogue Jos© Carlos LibSneo proposed on Monday that States implement a more humane and emancipating school system to address the challenges of the 21st century. This proposal was presented in Cuito, a city in Angola’s central province of Bi©, during the I International Congress of Pedagogy, where he spoke on the theme: ‘Impacts of education in the 21st century: which schools and teachers?’.

According to Angola Press News Agency, LibSneo emphasized the importance of creating a model characterized by social justice, humanization, and democratization, aiming to promote education that transcends mere preparation for the job market. He criticized the current educational system for focusing solely on employability and advocated for schools that foster the integral development of individuals, providing solutions to social problems within communities.

LibSneo stressed the need for schools to clearly define their goals, particularly in enhancing students’ human, physical, intellectual, affective, moral, and aesthetic capabilities. He also highlighted the necessity for teachers to be well-prepared to deliver content effectively, thus positively impacting the teaching and learning process.

The pedagogue further noted that this educational process requires teachers to master content and understand its connection to developing human skills. He called for educators to consider students’ social and cultural backgrounds and guide them in analyzing contemporary phenomena, particularly in the context of technological advancement.

Jos© Carlos LibSneo, who graduated in philosophy from the Pontifical Catholic University of So Paulo in 1966 and holds a master’s and doctorate in education, has a prolific background in research and writing on education theory, didactics, educational policy, and public schooling. His notable works include ‘Democratization of public school’, ‘School education: policies, structure and organization’, and ‘Pedagogy and pedagogues, for what?’.

The I International Congress of Pedagogy, which attracted over 1,200 national and international academics, is part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of Angola’s independence and the 16th anniversary of the Pedagogical School of Bi©. Participants from countries such as Angola, Portugal, Brazil, and other nations engaged in both face-to-face and online formats.

The event also featured six pre-congress courses on topics like didactics and curriculum, scientific article writing, Portuguese grammar, sign language, and specialty educational services, involving over 390 trainees. Additionally, fairs showcasing products and services from educational institutions and various companies were held as part of the congress activities.
