Houet: Around one hundred internally displaced persons and community actors from Bama are sensitized to peace and living together. Around one hundred people, including internally displaced persons, religious and traditional leaders, and community leaders from the commune of Bama, took part on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, in an awareness session on the culture of peace, the prevention of radicalization, and the strengthening of resilience.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event was initiated by the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, through the Directorate General for the Promotion of Citizenship and Peace. This activity aimed to promote social cohesion, prevent conflicts, and encourage citizen engagement in response to security challenges. The conference was chaired by F©lix Bay©, president of the special delegation (PDS) of Bama, and moderated by Ousseni Sidib©, focusing on themes of peace, citizenship, social cohesion, and living together. Sidib© highlighted the dangers of the inappropriate use of social media, which can exacerbate tensions and radicalization.
Benjamin Sow, director of citizenship and peace promotion, emphasized that peace is a fragile achievement that requires constant vigilance. He stated that lasting peace relies on three essential pillars: "the word, the thought, and the action" of each individual. The PDS of Bama expressed hope that such initiatives would reach a broader audience, urging the population to reject speech and behavior that promote hate, division, and mistrust, in favor of dialogue, mutual respect, and love for one another.
Participants appreciated the conference's relevance, believing it would contribute to strengthening harmonious coexistence between internally displaced persons and host communities. "For three years, we have lived without problems with our neighbors. This meeting will allow us to adopt even better attitudes so that we can live as one family," one participant shared.
