Koudougou, In a display of sheer racing mastery, Paul Daumont clinched victory in the 6th stage of Tour du Faso on Wednesday, fortifying his lead in the yellow jersey by 26 seconds over Belgian rival Wouters Rutger.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Daumont completed the circuit in 2 hours, 59 minutes, and 1 second, maintaining an average speed of 40.421 km/h. He outpaced competitors Achraf Ed-Doghmy from Morocco and Belgian Heylen Wannes in a high-intensity sprint to the finish line. The stage itself unfolded without major incident, as Daumont strategically marked his direct opponents to control the race, creating opportunities for others in the intermediate sprints.
At Kokologo’s first hot spot, Burkinabè riders Soumaïla Sorgho from the Western regional team, Bamassi Soulama from the Central regional team, and Daouda Soulama from the Western regional team secured the win. The second hot spot at Sabou saw Ivorian Souleymane Traoré take the lead, followed by Cameroonian Jérémie Sadikou Kossoko and Burkinabè Moucaïla Rawendé.
Daumont shared his race strategy, stating, “Today the objective was to control escapes and ensure that a dangerous person cannot get out. We had to save our strength. But since the favorites started to attack, we had to react.”
His efforts paid off, not only with a stage victory but also in retaining the three significant jerseys of the race: the yellow for the time classification, the green for points, and the pink for hot points.
The race is set to continue on Thursday, November 2, with the 7th stage spanning 122.8 km from Koudougou to Boromo.
