Patriotic Support Fund Initiative: Regional Conference in Gaoua Highlights Use of Citizen Contributions

Gaoua: The Ministry of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism, in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Brigade of Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), organized a regional accountability conference in Gaoua to inform the population about the use of citizen contributions intended to support the peace effort.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony was presided over by the secretary general of the region, representing the governor, and brought together different social strata of the Dj´r´ region. It aimed to take stock of the actions carried out thanks to the resources mobilized and to encourage the populations to maintain their commitment.

The region's secretary general, Robert Zougrouana, welcomed the initiative by the Burkinabe authorities to inform citizens about the use of their contributions. He reminded everyone that the reconquest of the national territory requires significant financial and material resources and invited the people to continue their support. "The Dj´r´ region, like other regions, is actively participating in this national effort to support the forces engaged in the reconquest of the integrity of the territory," Mr. Zougrouana stressed.

During the discussions, it was specified that the national mobilization target for 2026 is set at 200 billion CFA francs. Dominique Hien, a research officer at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, thanked the population for their strong mobilization, recalling that nearly 500 billion CFA francs have been collected since the Fund was established three years ago. According to him, this mobilization makes it possible to concretely support the forces engaged in the defense of the territory and the fight against insecurity, while also demonstrating the growing awareness of citizens.

For Mathieu Bilgou, representative of civil society within the Fund's management committee, this conference strengthens trust between authorities and populations. "This accountability exercise allows us to report on the use of resources and to reassure citizens about the transparency in the management of funds," he stated, believing that this approach will encourage continued contributions to support the forces engaged in the reconquest of the integrity of the national territory.
