Ouagadougou: The governor of the Nakamb region, Yiy Abraham Somdo, who also chairs the Regional Organizing Committee for Mandatory Patriotic Immersion (IPO), held a press conference in Tenkodogo on Tuesday. He was accompanied by the regional director of Secondary Education and Vocational and Technical Training, Nachor Sorgho.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this meeting aimed to inform media professionals about the challenges of the 2026 edition of the IPO and to request their support in disseminating reliable information, in order to promote public support for this national initiative.

Governor Yiy Abraham Somdo explained that this press conference is part of the preparation for the second edition of the mandatory patriotic immersion, scheduled from July 27 to August 26, 2026. A total of 2936 new high school graduates are expected in the Nakamb region for this edition.

In his capacity as president of the Regional Organizing Committee, he called upon media professionals to fully play their role by disseminating accurate information and raising public awareness about the objectives of this patriotic training. According to him, responsible communication is essential to ensuring the mobilization of all stakeholders around this initiative.

The regional director of Secondary Education and Vocational and Technical Training for Nakamb, Nachor Sorgho, presented the content of the mandatory Patriotic Immersion program. He emphasized that this is a patriotic training program designed to develop in new high school graduates a sense of civic duty, discipline, solidarity, social cohesion, and love of country, and not military training.

He also gave an update on the preparations in the region, indicating that regional and provincial bodies are operational and that organizational arrangements are continuing to ensure the smooth running of this second edition.

In response to journalists' concerns, officials provided details on the practical organization of the IPO, the conditions for participation, the grounds for postponement, and the mobilization of local resources to support this civic initiative. They emphasized the importance of community-based communication to strengthen public engagement.

Governor Yiy Abraham Somdo concluded by inviting the media to be strategic partners in this awareness campaign, so that all the people of Nakamb can take ownership of the objectives of the mandatory patriotic immersion and contribute to making the 2026 edition a success in the service of training a patriotic and responsible youth.
