Yako: The Rural World Association (AMR) organized an awareness campaign on Saturday, November 30, 2024, in Arbollé, focusing on road safety and the importance of wearing helmets while driving.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the AMR, which facilitates the Community Recovery and Stabilization Project for the Sahel (PCRSS), gathered on November 30 in Arbollé to conduct activities aimed at educating around thirty young men and women, aged 18 to 35, on road safety. The event featured a motorized caravan where participants, equipped with helmets, traversed the main streets of the town for over an hour and a half. The caravan aimed to instill good conduct during road traffic to help preserve lives.
Salif Sawadogo, head of the AMR mission, stated that the motorized caravan’s primary goal was to promote safe road behavior to decrease road accident victims. The initiative also sought to organize public events, encourage learning of the highway code, and provide protective helmets to young citizens in the p
artner municipalities of the PCRSS du Nord.
To further disseminate the message on helmet use, radio broadcasts were aired on the women and development radio of Arbollé, targeting the local community. The long-term objective of the campaign is to reduce road accidents and fatalities in Passoré, which is situated about 70 kilometers from Ouagadougou.
The caravan included road safety specialists and technicians, such as national police and driving school instructors, who delivered awareness messages about helmet use and road regulations. Dieudonné Sawadogo, a driving school instructor, emphasized the responsibility of driving schools to support such initiatives to reduce road accidents through awareness.
The activity was warmly welcomed by the local population, who gathered in large numbers to greet the caravan. In addition to the motorized caravan, AMR organized a popular cross, road safety competitions, a public conference, and an interactive program in both French and the local Mooré language to further pr
omote road safety practices.
