Yako - On Friday, December 15, 2023, the High Commissioner of Passoré, Daouda Sangaré, chaired the second ordinary session of the Provincial Consultation Framework (CCP) of Passoré for the year 2023, focusing on the humanitarian situation of internally displaced persons (IDPs).
According to Burkina Information Agency, technical and financial partners, along with members of the CCP, convened in Yako to deliberate on several key topics. The session, which also integrated the Provincial Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation Committee (COPROSUR), featured four communications. These discussions centered on the humanitarian condition in the province, disaster risk preparedness, and the actions of the Rural World Association (AMR) throughout 2023.
Participants also reviewed the operation of the community Early Warning System (SAP), which addresses health and non-health events or risks. A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to the situation of IDPs in Passoré province, which has been affected by insecurity. Despite challenges, there has been a notable return of IDPs to their municipalities.
Elvis Bambio, the provincial director in charge of Humanitarian Action in Passoré, presented the current status of IDPs in the province. As of the last semester of 2023, there were a total of 24,131 IDPs, including 2,234 in the commune of Bagaré. Bambio highlighted the humanitarian assistance provided to IDPs, which included school scholarships for displaced students, training for internally displaced women and hosts, and various forms of support such as financial, material, food, and psychological aid.
Despite these efforts, Bambio acknowledged several challenges in managing the IDP situation, such as the lack of identification documents, insufficient staffing and resources, and difficulties in gathering data from humanitarian partners in the field.
High Commissioner Daouda Sangaré expressed satisfaction with the session's progress and the relevance of the discussions. He commended the high participation level of members in this second ordinary session of the CCP for 2023. Concluding the session, Sangaré encouraged all stakeholders in both the public and private sectors of the province to increase their involvement in the development activities of the locality.
