Omuthiya: Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) party agent at the Omuthiya Elcin Church polling station, Adelheid Shiimbi, has attributed the turning away of voters from the polling station to inadequate voter education.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Shiimbi explained that a number of voters, though eligible to participate in the Regional Councils and Local Authorities Elections held on Wednesday, were unable to cast their ballots because they were not from the Omuthiya Constituency. "We are happy, we did not encounter major problems apart from this hiccup. Some of our voters were from the Oshikoto Region, but they do not belong in this constituency of Omuthiya. Some are from Oniipa, Olukonda, and neighbouring constituencies. What the agents had to do was encourage them to go back to their respective regions and still vote," Shiimbi said.
Meanwhile, Swapo party agent Ndilipunye Hainyanyola reported a smooth process at the same polling station. "We did not see any irregularities. So far so good, it was a peaceful voting process and everyone got an opportunity to vote fairly. It was a fast process and for that we are grateful," Hainyanyola stated.
Polling stations closed at 21h00 on Wednesday.
