Parliament Speaker Meets with Pan-African Parliament Chair at SADC-PF


Victoria Falls: The National Assembly Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira, discussed, on Tuesday in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, with the Chair of the Pan-African Parliament, Fortune Zephania Charumbira, issues linked to the functioning of the body, as well as the continent’s current situation.



According to Angola Press News Agency, the two lawmakers addressed matters related to new technologies, unity among Africans, peace, the development of the continent, and citizens’ inclusion in parliamentary affairs. In addition, and on the sidelines of the 57th Plenary Session of the SADC Parliamentary Forum (SADC-PF), Carolina Cerqueira also met with the Mozambique Parliament deputy-Speaker, H©lder Injojo, where both touched on parliamentary cooperation and the prevailing situation in this Indian Ocean country.



The members of the SADC-PF are meeting until Friday to review issues related to regional integration and parliamentary cooperation, among other matters of common interest. The SADC Parliamentary Forum is a regional inter-parliamentary organization made up of members of 14 national parliaments in Southern Africa, namely Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Seychelles, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.



It was established on September 8, 1997, during the Summit of the Community’s Heads of State and Governments. Its main objective is to provide a platform for dialogue to support and improve regional integration through parliamentary participation and to promote best practices in the role of parliaments in regional integration and cooperation.
