Luanda: The Speaker of the National Assembly (AN) Carolina Cerqueira on Tuesday in Luanda highlighted the importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as an important tool for the modernization of parliamentary processes and procedures. Speaking at the opening of the 'Workshop on the challenges and opportunities of using AI in Parliaments,' the Speaker said that the acceleration of technological innovation and the advancement of AI have been important for the organization of societies and state institutions.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the AN Speaker emphasized that as a pillar of democracy and a center of political decision-making, parliament cannot remain oblivious to the new reality imposed by new information and communication technologies in general, and AI in particular. Carolina Cerqueira pointed out that parliamentarians are aware of the new paradigms imposed in this era marked by the speed of information, process automation, and the growing presence of AI in virtually all dimensions of human life.
The lawmaker stated that parliaments can play an important role in promoting and disseminating the use of artificial intelligence, considering that they cannot be mere users, but protagonists in its regulation, supervision, and democratization. 'Artificial Intelligence is not a promise for the future, it is a present, dynamic, and transformative reality. And, given this scenario, it is legitimate and necessary to ask what role parliaments play in the world of Artificial Intelligence,' Cerqueira said.
The workshop on 'Challenges and Opportunities of Using Artificial Intelligence in Parliaments' was promoted by the National Assembly and addressed, among other topics, 'Contemporary Challenges in Cybersecurity' and 'Practical Application of AI in the Parliamentary Context.' The event was attended by deputies, parliamentary staff, academics, students, as well as national and foreign experts as part of a series of activities organized by the National Assembly to celebrate 50 years of national independence, which will be marked on November 11.
