Pama Residents Rally for Return of Health Workers to Local Medical Center

PAMA — On Saturday, February 17, 2024, the city of Pama witnessed a significant march-meeting organized by its residents, calling for the return of health workers to the Medical Center with surgical branch (CMA) of Pama. These health professionals had left their posts for Fada N’Gourma, the capital of the Eastern region, seeking refuge amidst security concerns.

According to Burkina Information Agency, a spokesperson for the event, the health care in Pama has faced severe disruptions since a security blockade initiated in 2022. In the absence of the regular health staff, the non-governmental organization Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has been the sole provider of medical services. However, with MSF’s mission concluding, the community faces an imminent void in healthcare services.

The demonstrators highlighted the dire situation at the CMA of Pama, where essential medical services, including surgical interventions, have been severely affected. The closure of the operating theater, as pointed out by Sangli, has put lives at risk, particularly those of expectant mothers requiring surgical intervention.

The march-meeting culminated in the sending of a request to the authorities, urging them to facilitate a supply convoy to the province of Kompienga, aiming to address the urgent need for the restoration of health services in Pama.
