Cunene: At least 809 foreign citizens in irregular migratory situations were expelled from the province of Cunene over the last 12 months by the Migration and Foreigners Service (SME), marking an increase of 315 expulsions compared to the same period in the previous year. According to Angola Press News Agency, a report from the SME revealed that these expulsions were due to violations regarding illegal stays within the national territory. Among those expelled, Namibians, South Africans, Bangladeshis, and Ethiopians were highlighted as being processed through the border posts of Santa Clara, which borders Namibia. During the same period, the border posts of Santa Clara, Okalongo Calueque, and Ruacana recorded a migratory movement involving 880,401 national and foreign citizens in terms of departures and arrivals. The SME report also indicated a revenue collection of 185,120,459 kwanzas from various migratory acts and fines, a decrease from the previous period's 207,161,118 kwanzas. Additionally, the SME in Cunene currently manages 519 foreigners from different nationalities, comprising individuals with work and residence visas, residents, special passport holders, prisoners, convicts, and those in pre-trial detention, as well as refugees and asylum seekers. The SME, which was established on April 19, 1976, is responsible for overseeing migration and the entry of foreigners into Angola. The province of Cunene shares a 460-kilometer border with Namibia, including 340 kilometers of land and 120 kilometers of river borders, and maintains border posts in Santa Clara, Calongo, Okalueque, and Ruacaná.
