UÍGE: Over 89,000 Arabica coffee seedlings were distributed to producers in Uíge province on Thursday, as part of efforts to boost the production of this crop in the region. Miguel Camoxi, head of the local department of the National Coffee Institute (INCA), disclosed this information during the free distribution event. He noted that last year 200,000 seedlings were distributed, but this year the target could not be met due to a reduction in rainfall which led to some seedlings drying up.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Miguel Camoxi highlighted that municipalities such as Uíge, Negage, Quitexe, Mucaba, Bungo, Buengas, and Quimbele are leading in coffee production within the region. However, producers face significant challenges, including poor access roads, lack of transportation, and insufficient financing, which hinder their operations.
Coffee producers in the region have expressed their appreciation for the free distribution of seedlings, viewing it as a critical measure to enhance coffee product
ion and revive the growth of the crop in Uíge. These efforts are seen as pivotal in restoring the prominence of coffee production in the area.
