Over 600,000 Angolan Citizens Reside Abroad, Majority in Europe

Luanda: The Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities, Domingos Vieira Lopes, stated on Tuesday that at least 600,000 Angolan citizens are currently residing outside of Angola, with the majority located in Europe. The announcement was made during the 42nd thematic session focused on the “Program for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities in the Diaspora.”

According to Angola Press News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, is actively working to provide identification documents to Angolans living abroad. There are currently offices in approximately 18 countries tasked with collecting data from citizens and forwarding it to the relevant authorities for processing.

Lopes highlighted that Angola maintains 64 diplomatic missions and 29 consulates spread across Africa, America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. These efforts are part of a broader government initiative led by the Ministry of Telecommunications, ITs, and Mass Media (MINTTCS), aimed at strengthening ties with Angolan citizens living overseas.
