Helao nafidi: Over 600 students have graduated from the third joint Nakanyala, Eenhana, and Valombola (NEV) vocational training centres graduation ceremony. The event, held at the Helao Nafidi town hall in the Ohangwena Region, saw 610 students complete their training in 22 occupational areas.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Ohangwena Region Governor Kadiva Hamutumwa emphasized the significance of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in her speech, noting its role as an essential pillar of national development. She highlighted that TVET is central to Namibia’s National Development Plan (NDP6), which prioritizes human capital development and investment in quality, relevant technical education.
Governor Hamutumwa expressed the need for more job creators rather than job seekers in Namibia, emphasizing the importance of blue-collar professions in building a productive economy. She stated that the future favors trades that contribute to national growth, moving beyond the traditional focus on white-collar careers.
Namibia Training Authority Chief Executive Officer, Erick Nenghwanya, praised the NEV TVET Hub as a model of cooperation, efficiency, and excellence. He explained that the three centers collaborated by sharing resources, facilities, trainers, and expertise, choosing to specialize rather than duplicate efforts. This partnership has led to improved governance, planning, and the establishment of a foundation for the NTA’s ongoing transformation strategies.
Nenghwanya noted that these strategies aim to transform existing State-owned vocational training centers into specialized technical colleges, reform TVET curriculum pathways, and improve access and equity in vocational training. The transformation is expected to boost educational quality, align training with industry needs, and support broader community and socio-economic development in Namibia.
