Colombo: Over 31,000 Sri Lankans have been affected by the current heavy rains, the Disaster Management Center (DMC) said on Sunday. The DMC reported that 31,623 individuals from 7,944 families have been impacted by the adverse weather conditions, with 847 houses sustaining damage.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the Department of Irrigation indicated that water levels in several rivers are high and advised residents in low-lying areas to remain alert. The heavy rains have persisted over the past few days, causing significant concern among local communities.
The Department of Meteorology announced on Sunday that showers or thundershowers are expected to continue over the next 24 hours in the Northern and North-Central Provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee and Batticaloa Districts.
